⚙️ SQE1 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
🔴 DEFINITION: SQE1 MCQs are Single Best Answer (SBA) questions made up of:
➽ a scenario (stem),
➽ a question (lead-in), and
➽ five answer possible options, where candidates must select the single best answer; all questions carry equal marks despite varying difficulty.
SBA means that, out of several possible options (usually five), you must choose the one answer that is the most correct. Other options may be:
- partly correct
- legally plausible
- or incomplete
This format is designed to test a broad range of legal knowledge efficiently, but it has attracted criticism as to whether it fully reflects real legal practice. The Solicitors Regulation Authority has therefore adopted a high-standard SBA approach, although there remains ongoing discussion about how closely the real exam reflects the sample questions, and the assessment continues to be refined by the SRA and Kaplan as it evolves.
