Why the SQE resitters choose the Academy of Smart Lawyers

We’ve Been Through It Ourselves.

Our approach was born from experience. Our co-founder, Dr Olga Pogrebennyk, initially failed the QLTS OSCE — the predecessor to SQE2 — in 2015 after completing the LPC. She took time out, completely rethought her preparation and, without using any training provider or external coaching at any stage, developed a pragmatic and practical approach to the assessment — combining legal knowledge with practical application, structured exam techniques and focused performance training. She returned, passed with distinction, and this approach became the foundation of the methodology we have since used to train aspiring solicitors.

Our Pragmatic Approach Was Born from a Resit

We don’t teach resitters simply to study more. We teach them to prepare differently.

What our SQE students say:

Years of experience assisting foreign lawyers in qualifying in England and Wales, including those who initially failed the SQE, have equipped us to support you in resitting and passing the exam successfully.
Join us and turn your next attempt into a success story.

Nana_Maisuradze_SQE2

The provider I used for my first exam prep felt a bit too general, and I think it would have been more helpful if it was more specific and focused.

For my second exam, I simply followed the exact instructions provided by the Academy via their SUPERexam platform, which made a significant difference.

I believe your training was very helpful. Before joining the Academy, I tried preparing with [training provider’s name omitted], but I found that your training is much more concentrated—and that’s exactly what is needed for the exam.

With your tutors, I had a feeling that I am moving forward, I am getting better. I knew what I was doing and what I was expected to do.

Aleksei Mozzhukhov, Dual qualified solicitor, practising as a senior-level lawyer in Cyprus
Ukraine SQE

What helped me the most was going through the slides you put together, as they clearly outlined exactly what I would be assessed on. Your slides cover everything that needs to be known, which was incredibly helpful.

I only wish I had that guidance the first time I took the exam. I truly believe that your preparation is highly focused on helping candidates pass the exam.

Maria Almodovar, Dual qualified solicitor (England and Wales & Spain )

FAQs

Do you have any questions? We are here to help.

The SQE2 Diagnostic Mock (SQE2 Mock) is a 2-in-1 assessment designed to evaluate your readiness for the SQE2 exam. It includes a realistic client interview with a layperson, followed by a written exercise (Attendance Note or Case and Matter Analysis), and concludes with detailed personalised feedback from a solicitor. This mock is important because it helps identify performance gaps before sitting the actual exam. Many candidates struggle due to poor exam techniques rather than a lack of legal knowledge. By taking the SQE2 Diagnostic Mock, you gain insights into your strengths and weaknesses, ensuring you refine your approach and avoid costly mistakes in the real exam.

For the SQE2 Diagnostic Mock (SQE2 Mock), you can choose to complete either an Attendance Note (AN) or a Case and Matter Analysis (CMA) based on the interview scenario.

  • Attendance Note (AN) – A structured document summarising key facts from the interview and providing legal analysis. However, it does not assess candidates on language proficiency.
  • Case and Matter Analysis (CMA) – A more detailed legal assessment that includes case strategy, legal reasoning, and issue identification. Language use is part of the evaluation.

For diagnostic purposes, there is no essential difference between AN and CMA, as both assess your ability to gather key facts, apply the law, and structure your response effectively. We recommend selecting AN or CMA based on your past exam results – for example, if you performed worse in one of them, opting for it in the diagnostic mock will help pinpoint areas for improvement.

Booking your SQE2 Diagnostic Mock (SQE2 Mock) is quick and easy. Follow these steps:

  1. Register on the SUPERexam platform – If you don’t have an account, sign up. If you already have one, simply sign in.
  2. Add credits to your account – You need £150 worth of credits (150 credits) to book the diagnostic mock.
  3. Go to the booking section – Navigate to the SQE2 Diagnostic Mock in the available services.
  4. Choose a date and time – Select a suitable time slot for your mock session.
  5. Confirm your booking – Your credits will be deducted from your account, and your booking will be confirmed.

📌 If you are a resitter, consider our Free SQE2 Results Analysis – We provide a complimentary review of your previous SQE2 results to help you understand where you went wrong and how to improve.

The Free SQE2 Results Analysis is a service designed for resitters who want to understand their previous exam performance and improve for their next attempt. How it works:

  1. Submit your SQE2 results – Share your official results with us for review.
  2. We analyse your performance – Our experts assess your scores, identifying gaps in knowledge, skills, or exam techniques.
  3. Follow-up call with a course leader – You will have a one-on-one discussion with one of our course leaders, who will explain the findings and suggest tailored strategies for improvement.
  4. Receive personalised recommendations – Based on your results, we provide guidance on the best study approach, preparation methods, and mock options to help you succeed in your next attempt.

This complimentary service is aimed at helping resitters refine their exam strategy and preparation plan to maximise their chances of passing the SQE2.

Our approach to SQE2 preparation is unique because we know the exam from the inside – we have passed it ourselves. Unlike many providers, we don’t just prepare candidates in theory; we train you to pass based on real exam experience.

1️⃣ We Have First-Hand Experience – Our team has personally taken and passed the SQE2 exam, meaning we understand the challenges candidates face.

2️⃣ Proven Track Record Since 2018 – We have been training foreign-qualified lawyers for over six years, assisting around 350 candidates to pass the exam successfully.

3️⃣ We Actually Train You, Not Just Provide Materials – Our structured training covers:

1. Law – How to Apply It to the Facts

  • Based on your SQE2 results analysis and diagnostic mock, we identify whether you need to substantially revisit the law.
  • We have excellent tools to help you focus on the most important legal contexts and teach you how to link them effectively to the facts – a skill that many candidates struggle with.

2. Skills – Mastering Non-Legal Marking Criteria

  • The SQE2 exam isn’t just about legal knowledge; it’s about giving examiners exactly what they are looking for.
  • Many providers fail to teach how to approach non-legal marking criteria, but we ensure you fully understand how to maximise your marks.
  • If you have already taken the exam, you likely now realise that you know more about the SQE2 than your previous provider ever taught you.

3. Exam Tactics – Our Most Valuable Expertise

  • We don’t just train you on law and skills – we teach you exam tactics.
  • These strategies help you score highly on both legal and non-legal criteria under exam conditions.
  • Time management is the biggest challenge in SQE2, and our specialised techniques help you overcome time constraints to perform at your best.

This holistic approach ensures that you don’t just prepare – you pass. 🚀
