How to Register and Book Your SQE Exams

If you’re preparing to take the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), it’s essential to know how to properly register and book your assessments. The registration process is straightforward, but there are key steps you must follow to ensure you’re fully prepared. Below is a structured, step-by-step guide to help you successfully register and book your SQE exams.

What you will read in this post

Steps to Register for the SQE

Before you can sit the SQE1 or SQE2, you need to complete the registration process.

Creating and Activating Your SQE Account

    • Go to the official SQE exam website and create your account.
    • Activate your account through the confirmation email you receive.
    • Log in to your account to proceed with registration.

    Identity Verification

Once your account is set up, you’ll need to verify your identity to complete registration:

    – Prepare a clear image of a government-issued ID (passport, driving license, etc.).
    – Follow the online steps to upload your ID and verify your identity.

You only need to verify your ID once, but make sure it’s completed well before you plan to book your SQE1 or SQE2 assessments.

    SQE Pre-Booking Steps

Before you can book an assessment, there are a few pre-booking tasks to complete. These steps are required before each booking but can be done at any time prior to the booking window opening.

    Diversity Survey

    • The survey is part of the SRA’s monitoring for equality and diversity in the legal profession.
    • Although not mandatory, the information you provide helps with understanding the diversity of SQE candidates.
    • You can choose to opt-out of any specific questions.

    Confirming Exemptions

    – If you are a qualified lawyer or hold qualifications that may exempt you from parts of the SQE, ensure you have applied for exemptions.
    – Wait for the outcome of your exemption application before proceeding with booking.

    Requesting Reasonable Adjustments

    – If you need any reasonable adjustments (e.g., extra time, specific equipment) to sit your exam, submit this request early.
    – Submit applications for reasonable adjustments every time you sit an exam.

How to Book Your SQE Exams

Once your pre-booking tasks are complete, you are ready to book your SQE assessments.

    Booking and Payment Process

Log in to your SQE account.
Choose the SQE1 or SQE2 assessments available to you. You will only be shown exams you are eligible to take.
Book your preferred test centre and dates via the PearsonVue platform (accessible through your SQE account).
Pay for the assessments upon booking using a card or a voucher (if applicable).
Confirm your booking, and you’ll receive an email with all the details.

    Booking Windows and Availability

    Booking for SQE1 and SQE2 is done on a first-come, first-served basis:

    • Booking Window Timing: Booking windows for assessments open at specific times, and details are published 12 months in advance. We recommend booking as early as possible because seating is limited.
    • Queuing System: If there is high demand when a booking window opens, a queuing system will be in place to manage the flow of candidates. The waiting page will provide an estimated time for your turn, and you won’t lose your place in the queue if you navigate away.
    • Selecting a Test Centre: When booking, the page will show test centres closest to the address you’ve registered with. You can modify the search criteria to view centres in other locations.
    • Availability of Seats: If your preferred test centre is fully booked, you’ll need to select an alternative location.

    Rescheduling Your SQE Assessments

Booking your assessments involves selecting your preferred test centre and paying for the exams. However, you can also reschedule under certain conditions.

    • Rescheduling: You can reschedule your test centre booking for SQE2 written assessments during the booking window, provided there are seats available at an alternative centre.
    • Cancellations: If you need to cancel your SQE2 oral assessment, you must cancel your entire booking and rebook both written and oral assessments, subject to availability. Keep in mind that cancellations may incur a fee depending on when the cancellation is requested.
