What Is an SQE2 Mock from The Academy of Smart Lawyers?

An SQE2 mock is a practice exam designed to simulate the real SQE2 assessment. It helps candidates prepare by testing both their knowledge of the law and practical legal skills through one-to-one mocks, such as:

    ORAL MOCKSWRITTEN MOCKS
    Client Interviews
    Advocacy
    Legal Drafting
    Legal Research
    Legal Writing
    Case and Matter Analysis (CMA)

During an SQE2 mock, candidates complete tasks that mirror the actual exam format. Afterwards, they receive detailed feedback from experienced tutors and solicitors, highlighting strengths and identifying areas for improvement. This process helps candidates refine their exam techniques, strengthen their legal knowledge, and build confidence ahead of the real assessment.

    Struggling with Your SQE2 Results?

Have you failed the SQE2 exam? Are you surprised by your low law mark? Sometimes, poor exam techniques contribute to low scores rather than a lack of legal knowledge. This is especially relevant for:

    • Candidates who studied BBL/LPC more than five years ago and have since been in practice.
    • Foreign-qualified lawyers who have no experience with this type of exam.

We offer a free analysis of your SQE2 results breakdown during a video call with the course leader. This session helps identify key areas for improvement and provides tailored advice for your next attempt. Simply complete our SQE survey to schedule your free analysis.

Not Sure If You’re Ready for the SQE2 Exam?

If you have not taken the SQE2 exam yet and want to test the waters of your readiness, our diagnostic mock provides a real-time evaluation. You’ll receive a detailed analysis from a layperson interviewer and one of our senior tutoring solicitors who has passed the exam. Try our 2-in-1 Diagnostic Mock for just £150. This is not an expense you should cut corners on – failing the exam could mean losing your exam fees, travel expenses, and your valuable time.

What is the SQE2 Diagnostic Mock?

The SQE2 Diagnostic Mock is designed to identify your performance gaps by combining two mock sessions into one. It provides a structured assessment of your readiness, focusing on both legal application and exam skills.

    Who is it for?

    1. Retakers – to identify performance gaps before reattempting the exam.
    2. First-time candidates – to assess SQE2 readiness before committing to full preparation.

Structure of the SQE2 Diagnostic Mock

The diagnostic mock consists of two sessions:

    1. Interview Session

This is an oral client interview with a layperson. During this session, you will:

    • Gather relevant facts and details about a given scenario.
    • Be assessed on your ability to elicit key information.

Our senior interviewer, a layperson (similar to the actors used in the actual exam), will evaluate your performance and provide initial feedback. Missing crucial facts during this stage can impact your written response, affecting your overall performance.

    2. Written Session

Following the interview, you will complete one of the following:

    • Attendance Note (AN) – A structured summary of the interview.
    • Case and Matter Analysis (CMA) – A deeper analysis based on the interview scenario.

It does not matter how the information was obtained (via interview or written instructions). What matters is how well you present it in your response. Both AN and CMA assess:

    • Client focus.
    • Clarity and completeness of facts.
    • Legal reasoning and structure.

Your submission will then be reviewed by our expert, who will analyse your written performance.

    3. Performance Analysis Call with a Solicitor

After your written submission, we will schedule a second call with a solicitor. During this session, we will:

    • Provide detailed feedback based on SQE2 marking criteria.
    • Identify key mistakes and areas for improvement.
    • Offer insights into alternative, more effective preparation methods.

    Why Take the Diagnostic Mock?

    A. Law Marking Criteria Are Consistent

While the diagnostic mock is not designed to assess your legal knowledge, it does evaluate how you apply the law. If your law mark was low, it may not just be due to a lack of knowledge but rather an inability to apply the law correctly in the exam setting. Many candidates find they need to revisit core legal principles, especially if they have not completed the LPC and had to learn multiple areas from scratch.

    B. Identifying Non-Legal Marking Criteria Weaknesses

The SQE2 marking criteria assess more than just legal knowledge. They cover practical legal skills such as:

    • Information gathering.
    • Structured communication.
    • Application of law in context.

These skills are crucial across the entire exam, regardless of whether you choose CMA or an Attendance Note. The diagnostic mock helps pinpoint skill-based weaknesses that may have contributed to poor performance.

    C. Learn a More Effective Way to Prepare

Our approach to SQE2 preparation, through the SQE2 1-to-1 station with personalised feedback, is different – perhaps even drastically so – from other providers. Many candidates approach the SQE2 exam incorrectly and fail due to poor techniques rather than a lack of knowledge. Understanding the exam format and refining your approach is key to success.

How to Book Your Diagnostic Mock

Booking your SQE2 Diagnostic Mock is simple. There are two ways to do it:

If You Are Registered on the SUPERexam Platform:

If You Are Not Registered Yet:

If cost is a concern, you may opt for a standalone mock (e.g. CMA) instead of the full diagnostic mock. However, we strongly recommend a diagnostic mock to identify and correct fundamental issues before reattempting the exam.iagnostic mock to identify and correct fundamental issues before reattempting the exam.

    Don’t Risk a Second Failure

Failing SQE2 a second time comes with significant costs and leaves you with only one final attempt. Many candidates fail by just one mark – a single mistake can make the difference. We don’t want that to happen to you.

Take the time to understand what went wrong and how to correct it before your next attempt. Book an SQE2 Diagnostic Mock (SQE2 Mock) today and experience an SQE2 1-to-1 station with personalised feedback, giving yourself the best chance of passing SQE2.
